‘Dollhouse’ News Round-up

Time for another news round-up! Exciting news so be sure to take a moment to read.
• The launch of Dollhouse has been confirmed to be mid-January; Mondays at 8pm. It will act as a lead in to 24, which will start it’s seventh season.
• The episode order has been increased from 7 to 13, but there is also room for expansion to 22 episodes if required.
• As previously mentioned, because of the fewer ad breaks each episode will now run for 50 minutes, as opposed to the usual 42 minutes.
• And finally, Canadian network CanWest has picked up the show and will be airing a similar slot to the US. The second pickup so far is Australia.
If you live outside the US, now is the time to let broadcasters know that you want them to air Dollhouse! They start visiting the LA Screenings shortly, which is where they make programme purchases.

For 2 New Shows, Fox Cuts Back on Ads

FOX has announced that they will be airing the new series with fewer commercial breaks; read on for the details.
Fox is shaking up the commercial TV model with “Remote-Free TV.”
At its upfront presentation Thursday, the network announced it will air two new drama series, J.J. Abrams’ Fringe and Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, with dramatically reduced commercial breaks.
“It’s a simple concept and potentially revolutionary,” Fox Entertainment chairman Peter Liguori said. “We’re going to have less commercials, less promotional time, and less reason for viewers to use the remote. We’re going to redefine the viewing experience.”
Both shows would have network commercial loads of about five minutes per hour, about half the usual. The commercial pods would also be shorter and they would have about half the promo load as well.

First ‘Dollhouse’ Trailer!

Unfortunately, Amy isn’t featured in the trailer either, which makes me wonder if she is featured in the pilot or not. Only time will tell, with the release of new episode stills, as we get closer to the launch date. However, read on for the trailer itself and some previews of the 100+ screencaptures available in the gallery at Eliza Fan. Enjoy!
Thanks to the ever wonderful Dollverse for posting the trailer; related quote is below, and click on the link (opens in a new window) to view the trailer!
Glen Kasper, principal of Storm Studios, said “Joss has always been known to create intriguing, very detailed stories and worlds, so it was a challenging assignment to get all the layers and intricacies of the story into a 3 minute trailer”. STORM was cutting the trailer simultaneously as the pilot was being shot, so FOX could get the sneak of DOLLHOUSE out in time for it’s yearly upfront meeting in New York.

Unfortunately, Miss Amy isn’t featured in these just yet, but FOX has released the first images from Dollhouse: a group shot of the cast; a solo shot of Eliza Dushku; AND the first still from the pilot — taken inside the ‘Dollhouse’ itself.
Cast pictured from L-R: Tahmoh Penikett, Enver Gjokaj, Eliza Dushku, Dichen Lachman, Fran Kranz, Olivia Williams, Harry Lennix.
A preview is to your right; head on over to Eliza Fan to view the images if you so wish.

Dollverse is reporting that the series has now been picked up for 13 episodes and that a trailer will be released shortly; I’m assuming it’s to promote the pilot episode, titled ‘Echo’, which wrapped filming last Friday. Can’t wait!
Other news — from the horses mouth himself no less! — is posted below; are you excited yet!?
I spent a good while chatting with the one and only Joss Whedon (pinch me!), who told me they he just wrapped on the pilot shoot for Dollhouse Friday, and that he has a very good feeling about the series because “Eliza Dushku can play anything, and in this series, she does.” Can. Not. Wait. He also very kindly shared this info about the show:
• Joss directs the second episode as well as the finished-on-Friday pilot, just to get things rolling.
• Sarah Fain and Elizabeth Craft are the show runners.
• Steve DeKnight and Tim Minear are both consulting producers on the series.
• Tim is writing and directing the midseason two-parter, namely episodes seven and eight.
• Joss would love to get Jane Espenson to join the gang too, if he could, but she’s on Battlestar at the moment and the show’s budget might not permit it. (Is it just me or do you want to send Fox a check right about now?)
• As reported earlier this week, Dollhouse will go at midseason, and, according to Joss, it’s likely premiering in January.
• There is no Dollhouse presentation planned at the Fox event, but Eliza Dushku might appear on behalf of the show.
• Joss: “I’m still having so much fun. I keep waiting for it to not be fun anymore.”

‘Groom Lake’ Goodies

First off, apologies for the lack of updates lately, but there hasn’t been any news; however, by tomorrow (May 15) that should change since Dollhouse is being presented to the press and advertisers. I’m hoping this means a public appearance from the cast, so can’t wait to find out!
Today, I’ve updated the gallery with Groom Lake goodies (also known as The Visitor) thus I’ve added MQ screencaptures for both the trailer and international trailer; I’ve also added LQ artwork — if you come across larger versions, don’t hesitate to get in touch. And finally, I’ve added the trailers to the video vault — huge thanks to Bad Fred for providing those. Gallery links and previews are below, enjoy!
